Sara riel 2
Núna (now) art festival, winnipeg, manitoba, canada
www.nunanow.com/
The imagery and inspiration came from two rather different sources, the Grey nun, Sara Riel (Louis´s Riel sister) and the birds that immigrate each year back and forth from Iceland and Canada-representing aswell the Icelandic-Canadians and the immigration that took place in the 18th century.
Only the upperhalf of the Grey nuns rope is shown and like a ghost or a bag, it floats in thin air. Coming from underneath, the birds are set free, creating additional movement.
The fourth annual Núna (now) celebration of Icelandic and Canadian art, and of the ever-strengthening span between, brings a variety of culture in just about every conceivable medium to Winnipeg and Manitoba´s Ínterlake through four weeks in May.
