Underwater Concert
Sundhöll Reykjavikur, Iceland
In collaboration with Tinna Ottesen, Gerður Jónsdóttir and Vigdís Þormóðsdóttir
This idea came from a longing to hear music underwater as we swam in one of the many swimming pools in Iceland. At that time, there were no underwater loudspeakers in the country and frankly, we had no clue that they existed.
We contacted the city of Reykjavík and Hitt Húsið and explained our intention. They were impressed by our idea and decided to buy one loudspeaker and help us finance the project.
The first concert was held in 1999 and then again in 2000 and 2001. Every event had a different approach and concept. With lighting, screening, and loads of floating things, we managed to create a smooth atmosphere where people could float and relax to the music. It was important that the music could only be heard underwater and therefore, electronic musicians were invited to play. |
